Benjamin F. Goodwin is more than a lawyer—he is a lifelong member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania community he proudly serves.
Born and raised in Georges Township, Ben was shaped by the values that define this region: faith, family, integrity, and hard work. From working on his family’s farm to helping in his father’s trucking business, he learned early that trust is earned, reputation matters, and people deserve honesty and respect. Those principles continue to guide his law practice today.
Ben’s passion for advocacy began at Albert Gallatin High School, where he competed on the mock trial team and discovered both a love for the courtroom and a calling to serve others through the law. That passion continued at Saint Vincent College, where he became a leader of the nationally recognized mock trial program. As team captain, he led Saint Vincent to the national tournament and earned numerous individual honors, including multiple Best Attorney Awards, three All-Regional Awards, and the prestigious AMTA All-American Attorney Award—recognizing him as one of the top collegiate advocates in the nation. He remains the only Saint Vincent student to receive this distinction.
Ben graduated from Saint Vincent College with Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Political Science, along with a Minor in Public Policy Administration. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law, where he contributed as an author to Pennsylvania Criminal Procedure: Elements, Analysis & Application (2nd Edition), published by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He passed the Pennsylvania Bar on his first attempt and is admitted to practice in the courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
Rather than join a large firm, Ben chose to build his practice in the communities that shaped him. He founded his own firm in Uniontown, later expanding, and ultimately co-founding Goodwin Como, P.C. alongside fellow Saint Vincent alumni Amanda M. Como and Gerious Tomas George. The firm is committed to providing high-quality, sophisticated legal representation to individuals and businesses throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania—delivering large-firm skill with small-town accessibility and client-focused service.
Now in his 20th year of practice, Ben has handled thousands of cases and tried nearly 70 civil and criminal jury trials to verdict. He is known for thorough preparation, strategic thinking, and steady courtroom presence. While respected for his litigation experience, clients often value him most for his honesty, responsiveness, and willingness to give straightforward advice—even when it is difficult to hear. He believes that a lawyer’s role is not only to advocate aggressively, but also to counsel wisely.
Ben remains deeply connected to Saint Vincent College. He has served as an adjunct professor teaching Business Law at the request of the Dean of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government. He also mentors students pursuing legal careers and has generously and in recognition of the opportunities that shaped his own path, he has supported the construction of a mock trial courtroom to ensure future students have a place to develop their advocacy skills.
Ben has been recognized by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and has been named the Best Lawyer in Fayette County by WMBS Radio.
Above all, Ben is a husband and father who believes that serving his clients is an extension of serving his community. He lives in Georges Township with his wife, Adrienne, and their two children.
Philosophy
At Goodwin Como, P.C., my staff and I begin and end every day with the simple premise that our clients and their legal matters are our highest priority. Our clients’ time is every bit as valuable as ours. They are not a fee, a file, or a number on a court docket. They are human beings who deserve to be treated with the highest degree of dignity and respect. While no one can guarantee a favorable outcome, what I can guarantee is that my staff and I will exert every ounce of energy to represent our clients in an efficient, ethical, and aggressive matter regardless of the magnitude of the case. Simply put, our sole objective is to out-smart, out-work, and out-perform the opposition. Our clients work hard for their money and, they deserve every bit the representation for their dollar that those in an economically superior position receive.
My clients are the reason I went to college and law school. They are the reason I get up in the morning and they are the only reason I am able to make a living doing a job I love. My name is on everything we do, and my staff and I take the time to speak to our clients and not over their heads, and intend on delivering the best legal representation we can to each and every client, each and every time, in each and every case. So regardless of your legal matter consult Goodwin Como, P.C. first and allow us the opportunity to earn your case and your trust.
